HUSK-E adaptive bike

  • The HUSK-E is the first handbike that allows the bottom bracket support to be adjusted and folded down, thus facilitating transport thanks to the small pack size.

The HUSK-E is equipped with a 20" wheel and can be used on public roads in Germany without the need for insurance or permits under the Pedelec Regulations.

When pedalling, the drive system supports the rider at the set support level with speeds of up to 25 km/h. This allows users to cover long distances faster and with less exertion. The HUSK-E is available in two model versions:

The HUSK-E EP8 is the powerful version with a torque of 85 Nm (Shimano EP8). This version is designed for uneven terrain and hilly topography.

The HUSK-E neodrives comfortable version offers an immediate response for users with limited strength. With 40 Nm torque, the adaptive bike is ideal for touring on flat to hilly terrain (without long climbs).

Version HUSK-E EP8

  • Designed for uneven terrain, hills, climbs and challenging routes
  • For users with muscle power who want to expand their radius of action and also be active for their health
  • HS version for best possible response
  • Dérailleur and hub gear systems are possible
  • Disk brakes can be implemented with a brake lever or a back-pedal disk brake

With 85 Nm of torque, the Shimano EP8 drivetrain offers very strong support. It is designed for riders who already have the necessary strength to be able to operate the controls from a standing position with enough force to ensure that the motor system responds right from the start. The HUSK-E EP8 is the ideal choice when your route includes hills, climbs and rough terrain. Batteries with capacities up to 630 Wh offer great ranges of up to 85 km. A speed of up to 4 km/h can be achieved using the starting aid without pedalling.

The HUSK-E EP8 can be equipped with dérailleur or electronic hub gear systems. The gears can be switched via rapid fire, button or chin controls, allowing the system to be adapted perfectly to the user’s needs. For riders with impaired finger function or for those who prioritise comfort, the hub gears offer an automatic function in addition to manual switching.

Hydraulic disk brakes or mechanical back-pedal disk brakes with a crank release function are available for braking. The back-pedal disk brake is particularly convenient for users with impaired hand or finger functions.

Even with all its power, the EP8 system is virtually silent and a true lightweight at just 2.6 kg.

Version HUSK-E neodrives

  • Designed for flat to hilly terrain without long climbs
  • For users with little muscle power as well as for all those who need a drive with high power assistance
  • Pinion gear shifting and dérailleur gears possible
  • Disk brakes can be implemented with a brake lever or a back-pedal disk brake

This HUSK-E variant with 40 Nm of torque is designed for touring on flat to hilly terrain (without long climbs). The immediate response when setting off and the constant support offer a great advantage for strength-impaired users. The long-running support, among other things, enables effortless travel. A speed of up to 6 km/h can be achieved using the starting aid, without moving the crank.

The neodrives hub motor is gearless, which results in completely silent and vibration-free operation. The rechargeable battery offers a range of up to 75 km. The range can be increased by up to 10% through recuperation.

The HUSK-E neodrives can be equipped with a Pinion gear shift. Thanks to the ability to shift gears at a standstill, the low-maintenance gear system ensures a high level of ride comfort and safety in handling. In addition, an electronic derailleur with operation via push button or chin control or a mechanical derailleur with Rapid Fire operation is possible.

Hydraulic disk brakes or mechanical back-pedal disk brakes with a crank release function are available for braking. The back-pedal disk brake is particularly convenient for users with impaired hand or finger functions.

Range of gear shift systems and brakes

The HUSK-E EP8 comes with a choice of high-quality mechanical and electronic Shimano dérailleur systems with 11 gears and the Shimano 5-speed electronic hub gear. Users can change gears on the handle or using a chin control. The hub gear also comes with the option of an automatic shifting system.

The HUSK-E neodrives can be fitted with a Pinion gear shift with 6 or 9 gears. It is shifted with a grip shift. In addition, high-quality mechanical and electronic Shimano derailleurs with 11 gears are offered. Shifting is done by means of a button on the handlebar or via chin control.

Braking is either accomplished by hydraulic disk brakes controlled from the handle or optionally via the mechanical back-pedal disk brake with a crank release function.

Convenient Shimano Di2 hub gear

The electronic Shimano Di2 hub gear unit with 5 gears can be shifted manually using control buttons or via the convenient automatic feature. Using the automatic function, the SHIMANO STEPS system automatically tells the Di2 hub gear which gear to choose based on the crank frequency and speed. When you stop at a traffic light, the system automatically switches to a lower gear (you can also shift to the lowest gear while stationary with a manual shifting operation).

This gear unit’s outstanding feature is that it was designed specifically for pedelecs and can cope with the higher torques of the powerful motors. As a result, there is no need to throttle the bike’s motor to 50 Nm. Instead, it supports the full torque of the Shimano EP8 drive system.

Pinion gear shift

The 6 or 9 speed Pinion gear shift uses a grip shift. These gears are protected against dirt and water with a closed housing and are therefore low-maintenance.

The fine, even gradations of the gears with a high transmission range mean smoother handling, as it is always possible to drive in the right gear. The option to shift while stationary provides safe handling. If you need to stop before a traffic light or on a slope, you can shift to the lowest gear while stationary, allowing an easier start-up.

Mechanical back-pedal disk brake with crank release function

The HUSK-E is also available with a convenient mechanical back-pedal brake as an option. This option also gives the rider a crank freewheel for back-pedalling. The cranks can be decoupled and you can conveniently reverse using the handrims – ideal for manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Simple handling when connecting and disconnecting with parking stand

The parking stand makes connecting and disconnecting easier, as it holds the bike at the height required for adaptation. The parking stand also allows the bike to be parked safely when disconnected. The parking stand can be folded up against the product with one step when travelling.

Sturdy adaptation

Connects via a central adapter (fastened onto the axle or cross-tube under the seat surface or onto the folding mechanism) or front adapter (fastened onto the front frame tubes). The adapters are easily adapted to or removed from the wheelchair. When they are removed, the added weight on the wheelchair is minimal, and there are no restrictions to the functionality of the wheelchair (e.g. folding mechanism). The adapter can be used for all PRO ACTIV adaptive bikes, traction devices and steering attachments with the same wheel size: ONE adapter for MANY combinations.

The HUSK-E also lets riders board the combination without disconnecting, if this is possible in terms of the disability. The bottom bracket support can be folded forward to create room for transferring.

Optimum adaptation to the user’s requirements

With different grip widths and crank lengths, the HUSK-E dimensions can be adapted perfectly to the user’s needs for an enjoyable ride and perfect control. The angle of the bottom bracket support can be changed using quick release levers without tools (in two locking positions). The length of the bottom bracket support can be adjusted retroactively to adapt it to the user’s changed requirements. The adapter can also be adjusted in angle, height and length.

Ideal for transport

The bottom bracket support can be folded down without any tools using a quick release lever and locking pin, resulting in a small pack size for transport.

The chain is routed in the bottom bracket support. That keeps the chain ‘tidied away’, preventing damage or soiling of the car or other items.

A luggage rack is available as an option for the HUSK-E. It can be attached and removed without tools, allowing it to be used flexibly. To fold away the bottom bracket support, the luggage rack is removed, achieving the usual small pack size.

Long range thanks to high-capacity battery
and double battery bracket

Two battery versions are available for the HUSK-E EP8:

  • 36 V | 14 Ah | 504 Wh | Range up to 75 km
  • 36 V | 17.5 Ah | 630 Wh | Range up to 85 km

For the HUSK-E neodrives version, one rechargeable battery version is offered:

In addition to this, the double-battery bracket can be chosen to double the range. Ideal for users who want to tackle very long tours. The change-over device lets you conveniently switch between the two rechargeable batteries using magnetic connectors. This is also possible without complete finger function.
